Signs That You Need a Tooth Extraction

Tooth extractions are usually only recommended if your tooth is too damaged or decayed to be saved with an alternative treatment like root canal therapy.

A few signs that your tooth may need to be extracted include a serious, prolonged toothache that won’t go away, inflammation and discoloration of the gum around the tooth, and discoloration on the inside of the tooth. You may even experience a fever or swelling in your mouth in extreme cases.

If you recognize one or more of these symptoms, you should contact Fox Point Dental Studio right away for an appointment.

The Recovery Process

Recovering from a tooth extraction usually takes 1-2 weeks. You will need to take care not to dislodge the blood clot in the socket where your missing tooth used to be, and you will need to avoid brushing the area for a few days. In addition, it is recommended that you eat a mostly soft diet for about a week. Some pain, bruising, bleeding, and discomfort are common, but should mostly stop within 3-5 days post-extraction. Dr. Krenzke will give you a comprehensive set of instructions after your procedure. Be sure to follow them to ensure your mouth heals properly post-extraction.

Frequently Asked Questions About Tooth Extractions

How Much Does it cost to Get a Tooth Removed?

The cost of a tooth extraction can vary quite a bit based on the type of extraction, the location of the tooth, the number of teeth you need to be extracted, and whether or not you opt for sedation. For an accurate cost estimate, we recommend scheduling a consultation at Fox Point Dental Studio.

What are Wisdom Teeth?

Wisdom teeth are our final set of rear molars, and they usually grow in between the ages of 17-25. They are a natural part of our mouths, but most patients do not have enough room for them, which can lead to complications like impacted teeth and changes in your bite.

For this reason, most patients at Fox Point Dental Studio choose to have their wisdom teeth extracted once they emerge. We can handle wisdom tooth extractions of all types, and we use the latest methods to keep you feeling comfortable and safe throughout the process.
